如果你讀過一首名為「遙遠的催眠」的近代詩，你也許真的會被其安詳的節奏感所催眠。
在英國文學中，也有一首兒童詩歌，以其簡單而重複的節奏，將讀者帶進美妙的幻想世界。這首詩名為 “Silver” (中譯名：銀色) ：
Silver – by Walter de la Mare
Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;
This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;
One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;
Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;
From their shadowy cote the white breasts peep
Of doves in silver feathered sleep
A harvest mouse goes scampering by,

夜深人靜，月明風高，一切靜物與生物，都被皎潔的月兒塗上一層銀白色的奇異色彩，這就是詩中文字所描繪的一幅靜物寫生畫。詩的自然韻律，令人陶醉，是一首適合兒童學習的好詩。詩文的詞彙可能對初小的學生來說，有點艱深。然而，名校小學，已經導入類似的詩文作為教材了。
